Wanne - Eickel, the town of the railroad

The main railroad station of Wanne - Eickel was one of the eldest and most important railroad - junctions in the Ruhr - district. The station is being situated at the elder line from Cologne to Minden.
Before the Second World war the "glass train", a diesel - electric high - speed rail coach, a precusor of the modern ICE, stopped in Wanne - Eickel.
But the main railroad station of Wanne - Eickel has lost most of its importance since the beginning of the 1970s, because the most railroad traffic was given to the modern line about Bochum.

About 70 magnific steam engines were statoned at the main railroad - station of Wanne - Eickel in 1973.

The mighty water - tower was pulled down in the mean time.

The photos of the steam engines come from the "day of the open door" in the Westhafen (port) of Wanne.
